Reliving the Inspiration of the Olympic Games The Nagano Marathon reminds us of the inspiration of the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympic Games, keeping the excitement ringing in our hearts, and contributing to the development of regional sports, culture and the Olympic movement. It also aims to promote marathons by providing an occasion for amateurs and the worldfs top athletes to run together, expanding the number of aficionados of running.

All registered runners (there is no registration on race day) must pick-up their race numbers on April 15th (Saturday) between 10:00- 20:00.

Competition Rules: Pursuant to the rules of IAAF for the year 2006 and those of current event.
Time Limit for Finish: 5 hours
Gateway Regulations:
Gateways are set up every 5km with closing times scheduled as stated below. Athletes who arrive at a gateway after the closing time will not be allowed to participate in the race thereafter. Furthermore, those who are still running between the gateways in question after the closing time have to abandon the race.

1) General Category: Men and Women 18 years old or over as of April 16, 2006. (Except for High School students)
2) Invited Athletes: Both Japanese and non-Japanese athletes with the recommendation
of the JAAF and hosts.
Entry Quota: 6500 people (in the order of arrival)
Entry Fee: 5,000 Japanese Yen (Includes insurance, a souvenir kit and finisherfs record-certificate)
Entry Deadline: When 6,500 entry applicants are received, registration will close and those received thereafter will be refused but entry fees received will be fully refunded.
Participants receive: Original T-shirt, and others.
*Finisher will receive a "Finisher's towel" upon finishing.
Awards
1) Overall: 1st-8th in both the women's and men's categories will be awarded respectively.
2) Age Group Awards: 1st-6th place, in men's and women's (exclusive of overall award winners) in the following age categories will receive awards. However they will be mailed- there will be no awards ceremony on race day for age group winners.
Age Groups: 18-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; over 70.
Participation Rules:
1) Participants are responsible for undergoing a physical examination administered by a doctor prior to the race to ensure sound physical condition.
2) Race officials have the right to stop runners who appear unable to run further or who are interfering with other runners (i.e. running backwards or in an otherwise irregular manner).
3) Runners must honor closing gate times, any objections will not be tolerated.
4) First aid is provided for incidents occurring during the race however we do not assume any further responsibility. All participants are covered for this service by the "sports accident insurance" policy taken out by event organizers but it does not cover hospitalization due to other illnesses or injury.
5) Substitute runners are prohibited. Upon detection, the participant will be disqualified. Furthermore, the substitute runner is not covered by marathon insurance.
6) Participants are requested to agree in advance to have their pictures taken during the race and possibly used in printed matter such as the event program or on the marathon website. They also are required to allow sponsors free use of their pictures for entrants' brochures and newspapers.
7) All participants should be able to run a full marathon in 5 hours. After the entry is made, start training for the race.
8) Participants are not supposed to wear or post anything that advertises a particular brand, company name or design in the event area (marathon course included). Running in disguise is not allowed.
9) Make sure to bring your health insurance card with you on race day.
Others:
1) Visually handicapped runners are required to run with accompanying runners. Accompanying runners are obliged to indicate as such clearly.
2) Though we provide water, sport drinks and sponges at aid stations, we can not make arrangements for special drinks for everyone because of operational reasons. Please understand special drinks are provided only for invited runners.
Course Map
Point to point course accredited by JAAF and AIMS is called gNagano Olympic Memorial Courseh. Participants begin their 42.195km adventure through the city of Nagano and then they will head for some excellent facilities that were used for the Nagano Olympic Games in 1998.
